Hello everyone, I’m Leo Liang. For those who may not know me, my purpose is founded on two strong passions: a real affection for classy, functional living spaces and the incredible versatility of aluminum. This isn’t just work to me; it’s a basic part of who I am. From running my B2B home building materials website, Sinriya.com, to discussing other design enthusiasts on my podcast and social media outlets like X, YouTube, and Instagram, this is my passion. I just love learning how a simple material can completely elevate a room. I’ve done so many projects, big and small, through the years, and one item always stands out to me for its ability to make a difference: aluminum decorative trim. It’s the unsung hero of high-end interior design. It’s that subtle suggestion that takes a project from “good” to “remembered.” And in this post, I want to pass along some of that enthusiasm and knowledge with you. We’ll dive into why aluminum trim is more than an afterthought and cover five specific ways it’s going to shake up interior design next year. If you’re a B2B expert looking for the next big thing for your clients or a homeowner with a design sense, I promise you’ll view those shiny, metallic lines in a whole new way.

What is aluminum trim and why do you need to know?

Let’s get to the point. What am I talking about when I say aluminum trim? Simply, these are extruded aluminum profiles that are designed to cover, protect, and decorate the edges and transitions in a building. Think of the edge of a tile wall, the point where two walls meet, or the joint between your living room floor and the tile in the kitchen. Aluminum trim is what gives these areas a look of cleanliness, finish, and intention. But it is so much more than that. The magic is in the stuff itself. We primarily use 6063-T5 aluminum alloy, often called “architectural aluminum.” This specific alloy is chosen for its fantastic combination of properties. It’s strong but lightweight, making it easy to transport and install. It has excellent corrosion resistance, which is crucial for applications in damp environments like bathrooms and kitchens. And, importantly, it has superb extrudability. This means we can create wonderfully intricate and precise shapes, giving architects and designers an immense creative tool to draw from. “T5” is the name given to the tempering—artificially aged and quenched from the extrusion process for a perfect blend of strength and formability.
Why should you care? Because these attributes directly translate into concrete benefits for any design project. In contrast to wood, aluminum trim will not warp, rot, or become infested with insects in damp environments. In contrast to plastic, it provides some degree of stiffness and a luxury feel that is immediately apparent. Its finish is also ideal for many finishes. We can create a mirror-like, near-chrome look, a brushed satin finish for a gentler look, a hard powder-coated finish in virtually any color, or an anodized finish. Anodizing is an electrochemical process which accretes the natural protective oxide coating of the aluminum to make it highly scratch-and-fade-resistant with a beautiful metallic luster. That durability means your design doesn’t just look good on day one; it looks good for years with minimal maintenance. It’s also a green option; aluminum is very recyclable, an increasingly valuable consideration today’s building. So, when you choose aluminum trim, you’re not necessarily choosing an edge protector. You’re choosing a high-performance, long-service-life, and highly versatile design component that truly pays and adds class.

Where is this experience built up? The Sinriya Story

I’m not only enthusiastic about this material theoretically; it’s from years of real-life experience. It all started for me and my fellow workers at Sinriya, located here in Foshan, China, a global leader in the aluminum industry. Here is where my personal journey and professional skill set intersect. We set up the Sinriya factory in 2014 with a mission: to produce high-quality metal trims that offer function and fashion. Our initial products were metal tile trims, wall corner guards, and transition strips. We saw an opportunity in the market for a supplier that thoroughly understood designers’ and builders’ needs and was able to provide consistently top-notch products. We started small, but with a steadfast dedication to quality.
Our dedication paid off. In 2016-2017, we were already expanding our manufacturing area and warehouse, two new manufacturing teams to meet growing demand. We did not just ramp up our quantity; we ramped up our innovation. In 2017 and 2018, we extended our portfolio to add metal skirting boards, carpet trim, and enhanced stair nosing with embedded rubber grip for safety. This was done because we were listening to our B2B clients and understanding the true real-world problems they were facing. Most recently, in 2023, we once again made a huge step forward by building a new warehouse in Ningbo, Huzhou, and a new sub-factory and warehouse here in Foshan. Now, Sinriya is the industry world leader. We produce from a 2,200 square meter production facility with over 50 hardworking employees. We have an annual production capacity of 5,000,000 pieces and keep over 1,000,000 pieces in stock to be able to ship within a short time. Our evolution from a small Foshan factory to a world supplier with a strong presence in Europe, America, and the Middle East is a testament to our experience and professionalism in this line of business. This is the foundation of the skills I teach you.

Are you maximizing the potential of tile trims?

Most people consider a simple plastic strip when they hear the words “tile trim.” But to tradespeople and design aficionados, aluminum tile trim is where the potential really starts. It’s a key example of where our products truly excel. Its primary function is, naturally, to protect the cut edges of ceramic tiles from chipping and damage, but its aesthetic contribution is also crucial. There are various principal profiles, each serving a specific purpose. The most sought after is the L-Shape (or straight edge) trim, perfect for creating a clean, sharp finish on exterior corners or where tile meets another material like a painted wall. Following that is the Square Edge trim, giving a boxy, cutting-edge look which is extremely fashionable in contemporary design. For something less cutting-edge, the Round Edge trim has a smooth, curved changeover, which is useful also for safety in traffic zones or around features like bathtub surrounds.
The material specifications come into play here. The trims are usually designed to accommodate standard tile thickness, and standard heights like 8mm, 10mm, and 12.5mm. You would choose the height based on your tile thickness such that it provides a flush, flawless fit. The finishing significantly changes the overall appearance. A shiny, mirror-finish silver trim can add an air of glamour and luxury, while a matte black powder coating creates a graphic, dramatic contrast against a light-colored tile. Satin gold or bronze-finish anodizing can contribute warmth and the illusion of subtlety. Besides corners, aluminum trims are required in transitions. A T-shaped profile, for example, is expertly designed to bridge the gap between two different flooring types, like tile and laminate, providing a smooth and secure transition that prevents trip hazards. My experience has shown me that the right tile trim is a small detail that makes a huge impact, turning a standard tiling job into a professional, high-end installation. It shows a level of care and attention to detail that clients and guests will always notice.

How can aluminum skirting boards revolutionize your walls?

Skirting boards (or baseboards) are the foundation of every room, yet too many times the options have been wood or MDF, both with severe drawbacks, especially in modern homes and business spaces. Aluminum skirting boards change the game. They have their best advantage being their incredible durability and weather resistance. Skirting made of aluminum is completely waterproof and damp-proof, as opposed to wood, and is perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and even basements where damp is a factor. It will never swell, warp, or allow the presence of mold. It is thus easy to clean; a wipe-down is all that it requires to keep it looking flawless.
But the advantages extend well beyond the functional. Stylistically, aluminum skirting offers a clean, crisp, and minimalist appearance that is characteristic of modern architecture and interior design. It creates a smooth transition from floor to wall that is both understated and refined. At Sinriya, we offer these in a variety of finishes, from anodized silver that complements modern hardware to powder-coated white or black for a more conventional or dramatic appearance. The design possibilities are immense. Some of our top models have skirting boards with integral LED light channels. This allows designers to create lovely, indirect light effects, bathing light down the wall and along the floor to create atmosphere and illusion of space. Another extremely useful design is the skirting board with cable channels incorporated into it in order to hide cables from view. This is an easy answer to the classic issue of messy TV, speaker, or computer cables, allowing you to maintain your premises tidy and clutter-free. Aluminum skirting is the best example of how a practical product, when made from a better material and with attention, can be a bright part of a room. It’s a break from classic and a move toward modern, durable, and versatile design.

Are you interested in innovative applications of aluminum profiles?

While tile trim and skirting boards are our bread and butter, the world of aluminum profiles is vast and full of creative potential. Thinking outside the box is where I, as a marketer and product designer, get really excited. Take stair nosing, for instance. It’s a safety element to prevent slipping on stairs that doesn’t necessarily have to be practical alone. Our stair nosing profiles in aluminum provide not only a durable, grooved edge to provide grip but also a clean architectural cut to the staircase. We even offer models with a co-extruded rubber insert for greater slip resistance for use in commercial and public areas. Another product required is the corner guard for walls. Where wall corners are under heavy usage in hospital corridors, hotel corridors, or commercial kitchens, they take a beating. Our heavy-duty aluminum corner guards protect against these vulnerable points being harmed and ensure a clean, streamlined appearance.
One of the most interesting fields of innovation at present is with LED aluminium profiles. These are custom-designed channels to hold LED strip lighting, and the applications are limitless. They’re not only for under-cabinet lighting anymore. We see them recessed into ceilings and walls to create dramatic lines of light. Backlight furniture, illuminate closets, or create a “floating” appearance under vanities or shelves. The heat sink nature of the aluminum channel allows for the extension of the life of the LEDs, and the soft, even lighting of the polycarbonate diffuser cover avoids harsh “spotting.”.” These profiles allow light to become a part of the building structure itself. From our extensive library of over 300 tile trim models to these specialty uses, our goal is to offer designers a comprehensive set of tools. And if you already have a vision in your mind, our OEM/ODM aluminum profile offerings enable us to create an extrusion tailored to your project. This flexibility is at the heart of expanding design possibilities.
